So what`s the deal with these critics scores? I find it incomprehensible that they can think that this movie is a modern masterpiece. Even if the logic centres of your brain don`t reject the deluge of plot holes, plot armoured characters, and jarringly injected political correctness, the story itself is total pants. This movie is so badly conceived and executed that it actually REDUCES the amount of joy you`ll get if you rewatch the older SW movies... well, if your any sort of fan of Luke anyway. The message of this movie is `Get with these nihilistic times sister, because being THE hero is lame, and we`re all heroes you see, so we all get a prize just for participating`. It doesn`t appear that any sort of decent script writer did because the pacing, humour, and shape of the movie are all way off. I imagine director Rian Johnson was given a checklist of crappy ideas and scenarios by Disney that he had to somehow shoehorn into it. That would help to explain the out-of-character and moronic behaviour, and the endless unneeded side stories that often had little, or nothing, to do with the plot. They just burned valuable time that would have better spent world building and developing some of the secondary characters properly. For instance: - What is the rest of the galaxy up to after the events of the previous movie. You`d think some of them would be angry enough to do something. Say what you want about the prequels, but they always made you believe they took place in a vibrant and culturally diverse universe. The stakes just feel so small and inconsequential in this movie when compared to even `Rogue One`. Please don`t be fooled by the thousands of Disney mandated positive reviews that have been appearing online - this movie is a dog, and it leaves me with absolutely no interest in where these movies are going nor desire to see what happens next. R.I.P. my childhood hero and role model Luke Skywalker, and commiserations to Mark Hamill. You didn`t deserve this treatment at all dude.

Marvel returns to top form after the extremely underwhelming and disappointing `Avenger`s: Age of Ultron` to give us `Ant-Man`. It is the 12th film in the long running cinematic franchise. A refreshing look at a whole set of new character and a whole new adventure to accompany them. This for me is without a doubt one of the best MCU films, if not marvel films in general, to come out in recent years. With an intelligently written, charming and HILARIOUS script. WITHOUT a doubt Marvel`s funniest movie to date. The dialogue in this movie has Edgar Wright written all over it. There`s not a joke that doesn`t hit at least one member of the audience. Lines that nobody laughed at I understood the references and found them to be hilarious. It definitely has a style of humour that will cater to all kinds of people. But it isn`t a comedy, it`s just unbelievably funny, at heart it`s a heist film. And a damn good one at that It never diverted off track as many blockbusters in recent years have done. It was a well told plot, it never really felt convoluted or messy. When one arc was being told it stuck to that one arc and it was clear cut and you always knew what was happening on screen when it was happening. As I`ve stated in my previous paragraph it`s obvious to any one that this was in some parts written and influenced by Edgar Wright. Some of the coolest and likable characters in the whole of the MCU appear in this movie. Every word that came out of Michael Peña`s mouth had me in stitches, he was one of the many highlights of the movie. One of which being Paul Rudd as the titular character. With such charisma and character he graces the screen and the majority of the scenes he`s in, well, any scene without Peña that is. Having such a likable person play a very down on his luck guy who`s just trying to turn his life around and be a better father to his daughter really adds to the sympathy you feel for the character. And makes you want him to succeed. I liked how they stuck to the mythos of Scott Lang, having him be a thief and a crook, having him steal the suit from Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) was straight out of the comics. Unlike with Tony creating Ultron instead of Pym. It`s definitely one of the most `close to the source material` marvel films to be released which is something admirable in itself. All the little details like having the daughter of Hank, Hope, added into the mix. The story of how Janet died wasn`t exactly accurate but it worked perfectly with the story. It seemed like a good way of going about it, it added emotion and depth to the characters to make you care for them more. To which the critics say there was no emotional weight, but when you have likable characters in a movie played by likable people and a well written script to go along, you definitely start to feel sympathy for them in a way that it doesn`t feel shoehorned in. Unlike again, the Black Widow and Bruce Banner love interest or the death of a certain character. It isn`t forced in there out of the blue to make you care how they end up. You care because of how well they`re written. You may feel like in nitpicking and bashing Age of Ultron but I`m not, these little detours have a reason. That reason is the right and wrong way to do it. And this was definitely the right way. The villain: He wasn`t top tear MCU villain like, in my opinion Loki and, who else? Nope just him. He wasn`t in it a huge deal. He wasn`t really fleshed out, but I could see from the trailers that he wasn`t really going to be. He showed emotion and reasoning that could seem justifiable to some. But he never had a just cause, the story of why he was doing what he was doing wasn`t really explained. He just seemed angry at Hank for tossing him aside. It felt in a way like a good old fashion revenge story but with a slightly different agenda more than it did anything else. He could have been a little more developed, but it`s marvel, what can you do? He was menacing and Corey Stoll portrayed him quite well considering what he was given. I think another thing I liked about this movie was it`s use of CGI and special effects. It wasn`t overbearing like in *Cough* Age of Ultron *cough*, sorry. It was well used, it was easy on the eyes and not shoved right in your face like he whom shall not be named. It was just the right amount. The action scenes are great, there`s levels of threat that you feel. You feel kind of suspenseful, not much but it`s definitely there. The parts where the main characters were in peril weren`t as life threatening as they maybe could have been. But these are minor if not unnoticeable discrepancies. All in all `Ant-Man` is a SUPER FUN MOVIE, I had a ball with this film. I was in hysterics as the humour hit a good 90% of the time. Action is realistic and believable and the villain while not very fleshed out was threatening on screen. This movie is, as Jeremy Jahns would put it. AWESOMETACULAR!!

Avengers age of Ultron is by far the best Marvel movie to date. It has all the elements of the first movie, but steps it up in the action, character and dialog. I went into this movie with very unrealistically high expectations. So when I saw this movie, I was very worried but excited. All the cast from the previous Avengers movie all reprise their roles. Robert Downey Juinor was amazing as Ironman. Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were both great as Captain America and the mighty Thor. Scarlett Johanson was brilliant as Black Widow and was even more bad-ass in this movie, than any of her other films. Her role was substantially bigger this time around. This can also be said about Hawkeye, who`s role was way bigger in this movie. In fact, Hawkeye even has some of the best lines and the best action sequences. Mark ruffilo was once again amazing as Hulk and Bruce Banner. The one character that stole the show, would be James Spader. He embodies an evil AI robot perfectly. He can be really calm and yet menacing and sometimes he can be full of rage and anger. Aron Taylor Johnson and Elisibeth Olsin are also a great new edition to the marvel universe. The scarlet Witch character has a big part in the film also. The action has been dialed up and the set pieces are bigger and better. The cgi can seem a little off at times, but other than that, it looks fantastic. The movie also spends time on the relationships and past of some characters, which leads to some great character moments. This is much more emotional, than the first movie. I would defiantly say that this movie is better than the first Avengers Movie!

Until May 2008, the few releases this year that I`ve seen ranged from below average to downright rubbish with the exception of two movies. One being `Iron Man`. This is the movie we have been waiting for this year. So does it match up to expectations? Hell yes! On the surface, `Iron Man` isn`t very different from other superhero films but on the other hand it isn`t like any other superhero movie. This one has rich characters, it perfectly blends humour, drama, action and it has heart, all of which are presented on screen in a wonderful way that keeps the viewer staring at the screen right till the end. The writing is great as `Iron Man` sticks to the main story all the way. I liked how Downey Jr`s Tony Stark grows from this carefree business-minded tech-tycoon who`s only concern is Stark Industries to a man with a mission to save the world and in the process he still stays the same person as he maintains his sense of humour, his courage and his integrity. The dialogues, especially Starks`s one-liners are sharp, witty and funny. This movie is an introduction to the famous title character thus those expecting only action from start to end (like `Transformers`) may be disappointed to an extent. But for me there was enough action along with substance to make it a hugely enjoyable experience. Jon Favreau is proving to be a more versatile director and his impressive filmography, both as actor and director, prove that he`s experimented with different kinds of cinema. `Iron Man` wouldn`t have been an easy film to direct but Favreau does a magnificent job. The CGI is excellent as I loved how much attention was given to detail and how the viewer is shown every step of the making of Iron Man. Of course, there`s some humour added to lighten up the mood instead of technologically overloading the viewers. `Iron Man` is just the movie that Robert Downey Jr. needed and it couldn`t have come at a better time. At a time, when this talented actor`s performances were hardly getting enough notice, `Iron Man` brings him back to recognition. After seeing him, one would conclude that the part was made only for Downey Jr. His dialogue delivery seems so natural that it would be hard to tell whether he was acting, if the scenes were taken out of context. I don`t think Gwyneth Paltrow has ever looked better. Though the role does not allow her to really stretch her acting, Potts isn`t just a typical superhero`s dame. She is Tony`s confidant and the one who supports him through thick and thin. Paltrow provides the necessary charisma, sex appeal and soul that makes Pepper Potts shine and she shares a sizzling chemistry with her male lead. Terrence Howard has a smaller role as Tony`s good friend but there`s a hint that he might have a more prominent role if a sequel is made. Finally, there`s Jeff Bridges as the villain. An odd yet brilliant choice as the actor is refreshing and like his costar, he too needed an `Iron Man` to give his career a boost. I noticed that some people were complaining that Muslims/Middle Easterners were portrayed as bad guys just like in any other American movie but I would like to state that this is no `Vantage Point`. Here, these people weren`t portrayed as terrorists working on their own but as men hired for a specific reason (I won`t say more to give away spoilers). So I just thought to briefly clarify that this is no anti-Islamic or anti-anything (except, well okay, anti-weaponry) movie. It`s a movie for everyone. Perhaps the story itself isn`t anything novel which is what makes it somewhat similar to other superhero movies, but the treatment of it and its execution is quite unique. Add to that a fine cast and dazzling special effects among many things, this is the summer movie experience I`ve been waiting for in 2008. I wonder what else this summer has to offer as I doubt that it would succeed in providing anything close to the sheer entertainment of `Iron Man`.
